As we take a look into the Company Analysis section of our Situational Analysis, we are really digging into what a band stands for. The title of the section is clear enough. We are analyzing the company, the group, the band. Not to be confused with the product or the music which comes through the band, what we are looking at is the core makeup behind the music.
What does your band stand for? Before stardom has a chance to influence a new group, truly wise bands will set and define their core values. Aside from following the natural moral compass, there is promotion to consider. When a band stands for something positive, influences a change, or moves for a cause fueled with purpose, it will have a great advantage in terms of band promotion and media attention.
One band in particular that has caught my attention over the past few years has been Demon Hunter. There are really two things that you want to nail down when it comes to your Company or Band Analysis. This will include a Mission Statement and a Vision Statement. For some tips and ideas, check out this online Mission Statement Builder at http://www.franklincovey.com/msb/. In simple terms, a Mission Statement represents the values and ethical foundation whereas the Vision Statement reflects the purpose and reaches at goals and aspiration.
Once you have articulated a Mission Statement and Vision Statement, you have the foundation for your band analysis. Your statements will be concise labels for your band which should not change. Your Band Analysis explains where these statements and values weave in and out of your team. Discuss the people that make up the band, where it started from, where the current reaches into the music industry are. You are commenting on the current situation of your band as a group and as a company. If you are signed - talk about your label. If you are in the beginning stages – state what the current status is.
In summary, the “Company Analysis” represents the roots, boundaries, current situation, and direction of the company, the band, the group, the team. It is grounded then by a Mission Statement and a Vision Statement.
